How the per-gram price is worked out
Gold is traded in troy ounces. One troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams, a little heavier than the ounce used for food (28.35 grams). We divide the spot price per troy ounce by 31.1034768 to get the price of one gram of pure gold.
Karat gold is a mix of gold and other metals. 24 karat means 24 parts out of 24 are gold. 14 karat means 14 parts out of 24, which is 58.3%. Jewelry made to the European standard is stamped 585 instead, meaning 585 parts per thousand. The table uses the stamped fineness for each karat (999, 916, 750, 585, 417, 375), so the numbers match what is in your item.
To get the value of one gram of 14K gold, the calculation is: spot price per gram × 0.585.
Why this is not a shop price
These are melt values. A shop selling new jewelry charges for design, labor and margin, so new jewelry costs much more per gram. A buyer of old gold pays less, because the metal still has to be tested and refined. See what gold buyers pay.
How often the price changes
The spot price moves during the trading day. Our server fetches it at most every few minutes and shows when it was fetched. If the price cannot be loaded, the table shows a dash instead of an old or guessed figure.
